New to this...have an iWatch also, how do you change the track color as you are tracking (prior to moving) so that it's not that dark brown color?  I'd like it to be something more colorful to show up a bit better, that dark color was blending in with the streets.

    Hi,

You can change the currently recording track with the same method here. After you start the track, go to your saved tracks page and it will appear there with a default name/date/time title.

How do I change the order that tracks and routes are displayed? I have numerous tracks in magenta. I added a route in yellow that I want to follow. However, the route is drawn first then the tracks are drawn over top of it obscuring the route. I want the opposite. I want the tracks drawn first then the route drawn last so it is visible over top of the tracks. Is there a way to control this?

There isn't a way to control what displays first, but you can turn some tracks 'off' so that they aren't displayed on the map by toggling the 'visible on main map' option shown in the first screenshot above.

Thanks Ashli. In my case I want to leave the other tracks displayed, since I will be traversing only a portion of that track and don't want to miss the turnoff. Since the order in which tracks and routes are displayed can't be controlled, can it be manipulated? The algorithm that draws the tracks and routes on screen isn't random. Can I configure my planned route or track such that the algorithm will draw it on top (last)? This is a question more for the programmers than the users I guess. How is the database traversed to draw the tracks and routes? Alphabetically? By date created? By date modified? By folders alphabetically? Routes first then tracks second? If we know this then we can edit/name/create or track/route to have it displayed on top. What do you think? Cheers. John.

    John,

It ends up being multiple things that affect how tracks display on the map. It's not straightforward from the code how it works but here's what we empirically determined:

    • When tracks overlap in Gaia GPS, the app first looks to see if each track has a timestamp. If all of the tracks have timestamps, then the most recent track will be displayed on top.
    • If the tracks do not have a timestamp, for example a track that was imported as a KML file, the tracks will then be ranked for display by the track's total length. In this scenario, the tracks will be displayed longest to shortest.
    • In folders it is by number of route/track points.
    • After toggling the visibility of the tracks the app ranks them by KML import order (newest to oldest) then order of toggled visibility (last to be toggled to first track toggled)

Thanks. I have managed to get them to display with the one on top that I want there. :-)

    Hi,

Two questions related to this topic.

    1. Is there a way in the Android version of the app to change the color of more than one track at a time? I have dozens of tracks that I need to change to a common color. One at a time is tedious. Alternatively, can I just change all the tracks in a folder to a certain color at once?

    2. Black or gray isn't shown as option for a track color. How to do I change a track color to black?

    Hi,

    1) There is not, however you can post that idea publicly on the Community Forums -- that will let other users vote and comment, and you can follow the progress of ideas.

    2) Sorry about that, it looks like there isn't a way to select black or gray. Please feel free to request that as well. Or, you can vote for this idea, which would allow custom color selection from the website: https://help.gaiagps.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/115001272248-Allow-editing-of-trail-route-colors
