Edit Your Tracks

Cropping

Cropping is useful when you forget to turn off your track. For example, when you record the drive home.

1. Choose the Track from your Saved list .

2. Tap on "Edit" to start cropping your track.

3. To adjust the start and end positions of your track, slide right or left with the toggles on the bottom of the screen.

The graph that appears between the "Start" and "End" toggles shows your elevation change over time.

4. Tap on the scissors icon to save your changes.

Once saved, the cropped portion of the track cannot be recovered.

Article says: 'The graph that appears between the "Start" and "End" toggles shows your elevation change over time.' That does not appear on my android, so I have no idea where I should put y cut. Even if it did appear, I'm not sure it would be helpful. Is it possible to edit from waypoints or when there is a change of speed?

    Hi Ken,

This article shows cropping for iOS devices, you can see the Android article here: https://help.gaiagps.com/hc/en-us/articles/216161937-Crop-Your-Tracks

There isn't a way to edit your track based on speed or waypoints, sorry about that.

Do you have a method to stitch tracks together?  Rather than forgetting to turn the recording off on the drive home, I've forgotten to begin recording again on a thru hike after a lunch break. I'd like to be able to trace the trail on the map to connect one segment to another. I would also love for a route to snap to features on a map like a trail or road.

No option for that in Gaia GPS, but feel free to add the suggestion to the forums: https://help.gaiagps.com/hc/en-us/community/topics

For now, you can export your tracks and combine them in a 3rd party program like Adze or GPS Track Editor.

I edited a track on iOS .. but cut too much off the end. Is there some kind of restore? It is correct on gaiagps.com .. but afraid that won't last long.

    Hi,

No there is not an option to restore, but if your track looks well on gaiagps.com, you should export it as GPX or KML. Then you can reimport to the app or website:

Ashli .. I currently use Garmin Basecamp to edit GPX files. Can you recommend other packages I can use to edit GPX and KML files?

I use Adze and like it a lot: https://getadze.com/

I think it is only available for Mac, though. If you use a PC, I've also heard good things about GPS Track Editor: http://www.gpstrackeditor.com/

I am trying crop a track, and I do not see any option to edit. I’ve found multiple articles on this topic, and they are all similar, stating that I need to simply select “edit.” When I select the track from my saved tracks, I can then select the edit icon, and it gives me the following options: Edit Title, Change Color, Lookup Elevations. That’s it. I also tried select the icon with three dots in the top right corner, and I get the following options: Show on Main Map, Export, Download Maps for Track, Resume Recording, Delete. Can you offer any help on what I’m doing wrong?

    Hi willy2500,

I'm sorry you had trouble with that!

Please send an email to support@gaiagps.com, and include a link to the track from your account on gaiagps.com if possible and someone can take a look.

Hi Ashli. Thanks for your reply! So I figured out what the problem was. I left the track recording on the drive home, and it eventually stopped recording, but I had not yet “finished” it. I had to select finish track, and once I did that, it was all good and I was able to crop. Anyway, problem solved. Thanks again!
